FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything You Need to Know

WHAT QUALITIES SHOULD A PET GROOMER HAVE?

Pet groomers need to have particular qualities to be successful in their role.

  • Understanding of animal behavior: Groomers must be able to keep pets calm and safe.

  • Customer-service skills: Groomers must be able to listen to the clients' requests.

  • Grooming skills: They should have knowledge of different breeds of dogs and groom according to their hair types.

  • Physical and mental stamina: Pet groomers stay on their feet for extended periods and sometimes need to manage excited, large, or frightened dogs.

  • Interpersonal skills: A pet groomer needs to interact with co-workers and clients regularly.

  • Pet health knowledge: Groomers should recognize common illnesses, like skin irritations, eye-watering due to allergies or parasite infections.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY PET BE GROOMED?

This is a very common pet grooming question that doesn’t have an exact answer—as it depends on your pet’s breed and coat. A good rule for pet grooming basics is: the longer the hair, the more often the pet should be groomed. We suggest professional pet grooming every six to eight weeks, but an active shorthaired dog who loves to roll in the dirt, for example, may need more frequent appointments at the salon than a relaxed pup who stays indoors most of the time.

DO I NEED TO BATHE MY PET BETWEEN SALON VISITS?

This depends on how often you see us. If you come in for monthly or bi-monthly visits, you’ll only need to brush your pet regularly unless they get extremely dirty. If you go longer between visits to see us, bathing at home is recommended, depending on the pet and breed.
